SAMBROSO ALL STARS: LATE LATE SHOW AT RONNIE’S

  • Ronnie Scotts 47 Frith Street London, England, W1D 4HT Royaume-Uni (map)

Every Friday and Saturday night, following the second show, Ronnie Scott’s presents the Late Late Show, where some of the UK’s finest jazz talents take to the stage for a late night blowing session. We are changing the vibe with music that includes and is influenced by jazz-funk, soul, R&B and hip hop.

The history of Latin Descargas (Cuban jazz sessions) is a rich one – made famous in the 50s in Havana with musicians like Tata Guines on congas and Cachao Lopez on bass having musical conversations over uniquely Cuban grooves. In the US, the jam sessions became a meeting point for Jazz musicians and the Latin musical community to show off their chops - think Art Blakey jamming with Chano Pozo and Sabu Martinez and then the Nuyorican movement of the late 60s and 70s with legendary Descarga sessions drawing in maestros from across the Americas – Mongo Santamaria playing with Tito Puente playing with Eddie Palmieri.

With this incredible heritage in mind, Sambroso All Stars proudly present the first in a series downstairs at Ronnie Scott’s, bringing together the finest Cuban musicians based here in the UK. Led by maestro percussionist Oreste “Sambroso” Noda, who has firmly established himself as one of UK’s leading Congeros, performing with everyone from Jazz Jamaica to James Taylor Quartet to Lokkhi Terra. Hugh Masekela said of him “this guy is so good he should be arrested!” Including UK’s leading Cuban bassist Jimmy Martinez and virtuoso percussionist Oscar Martinez on bongos, the line-up is a who’s who of the Cuban scene in London, with various heavy weight guest musicians also invited, this should be one to remember.
